Vikings sign QB Carson Wentz, trade QB Sam Howell to Eagles

The Vikings signed quarterback Carson Wentz and traded quarterback Sam Howell to the Eagles.

Fantasy Impact:

The Vikings had worked out Wentz recently and have now added him to the roster. To make room, Howell was traded to an Eagles team that in search for a short-term backup to Jalen Hurts, as Tanner McKee is dealing with an injured finger and his status for the start of the season is unclear.

The move is also a sign of the confidence the Vikings have early on in rookie Max Brosmer as the potential backup to J.J. McCarthy. At the very least, he’ll stick around as the No. 3 after a solid preseason.

This is the third time in about a year and a half that Howell has been traded. He went from Washington to Seattle in March 2024 (after starting 17 games in 2023), then from Seattle to Minnesota back in April and now from Minnesota to Philadelphia.

The Browns believe QB Kenny Pickett is healthy enough to remain on the active roster, furthering the belief that the team will keep four quarterbacks.

Fantasy Impact:

Joe Flacco is entrenched as the starter (for now) and the Browns have continued to lean towards keeping both Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders. Fowler also reports the Browns haven’t gotten “knee-deep” into how the depth chart will look and who will backup Flacco in Week 1. Perhaps a trade could be in play down the line, but for now, the Browns look like they will keep four quarterbacks when they cut down to 53.

Chargers GM Hortiz: Najee Harris feeling ‘great’, could play Week 1

Chargers general manager Joe Hortiz said Saturday night that running back Najee Harris is feeling “great” and that he is hopeful the vet can play Week 1 against the Chiefs.

Fantasy Impact:

Harris has been out with an eye injury stemming from his July 4 fireworks mishap, sitting on the non-football injury list. Harris has been working on the sidelines with trainers for the past week-plus. The Chargers brought in Harris during free agency before spending a first-round pick on UNC RB Omarion Hampton. If healthy, he’ll at least be part of a committee in Los Angeles with Hampton leading the charge. Harris is currently RB41 on the consensus rankings.

Lamar Jackson expected to practice Monday

Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson is expected to practice Monday, according to head coach John Harbaugh.

Fantasy Impact:

Jackson had a minor foot issue after having it stepped on during practice Wednesday. Harbaugh gave a simple “Yes, absolutely” answer when asked if he thinks Jackson will be good to go for Monday. All systems are back on for the reigning MVP and either QB1 or QB2 in fantasy drafts. The Ravens are now focused on getting revenge on the Buffalo Bills in Week 1.
