Cowboys WR Amari Cooper unlikely to play in preseason

Amari Cooper left practice early on Aug. 3 with what was described by the Dallas Cowboys as a heel bruise, and head coach Jason Garrett had hopes on Aug. 6 that Cooper would return to practice that afternoon. He's since missed every practice and the preseason opener against the San Francisco 49ers, however, and new information points to an issue that may be more concerning than a simple bruised heel. The injury to Cooper is reportedly "more of a ligament thing," team insider Mickey Spagnola told 105.3FM the Fan on Aug. 13, which would explain why extra rest is needed.

Fantasy Impact:

This is the same issue that was called plantar fascia irritation yesterday by sources, so this all seems clear as mud. Beat writer Patrik Walker does have sources that tell him the "ligament thing" is closer to the truth than the earlier reports and that Amari Cooper is unlikely to play this preseason. Any damage to a ligament is concerning, but it appears the team feels good about him getting back before Week 1. Hopefully, all of these reports will get the team to clarify a timetable for Cooper's return.
