Minneapolis Star Tribune: Tarvaris Jackson will get another start
at QB this Sunday against Atlanta at the Metrodome and veteran Gus Frerotte will serve as the backup. Frerotte suffered a broken bone
in his lower back against Detroit on Dec. 7 enabling Jackson to
play for the first time since he was benched after Week 2. Jackson
helped the Vikings rally for a victory over the Lions and then
threw a career-high 4 TD passes last Sunday in a 35-14 victory at
Arizona. HC Childress declined to say who would start on Wednesday
but today OC Darrell Bevell made the announcement during his
weekly news conference. Frerotte was the #3 QB last Sunday but the
fact he's going to be the backup means that the Vikings consider
him healthy enough to play. Bevell said the decision to start
Jackson "is what we're doing for this week" and declined to say if
Jackson might keep the job long term. "We're still continuing to
let him heal up," Bevell said of Frerotte. "Obviously we don't
want to get him in there and knocked around and knock that thing
loose or cause him anymore problems. He was out here in practice
yesterday, he moved around well so we just continue to bring it
along the way we have it."
