NFL Week 2 Best Bets on Rebet: Oli Fell's Top Player Props
Well, Week One certainly delivered - both in terms of entertainment and winners. We kicked off the season with a clean sweep of picks, props to Messrs Derrick Henry, Devaughn Vele, and Wan'Dale Robinson; your efforts were much appreciated.
Week 1 Recap (3-0):
Everything went pretty much as hoped. The Baltimore Ravens led from the first quarter and gave Henry carries throughout the game; he finished with 24 in the end, partly due to Zay Flowers’ injury. The New Orleans Saints were trailing throughout and ended up with 81 offensive plays as they narrowly lost in overtime. Vele, in fact, had a stellar game and is definitely one to watch going forward. The Tennessee Titans were soundly beaten by the New York Jets, with Robinson securing six receptions for not so many yards. Going forward, I will likely be out on the Titans offence. Even though they deployed a pass-heavy game script, quarterback Cam Ward struggled against a Jets defence in rebuild mode.
Week 2:
Not every week will be done and dusted before the second slate even begins, but it sure felt nice sitting back to watch the second half of RedZone with some green slips under my belt. So, what do we know? A little about some teams, a lot about others. ‘Week 1 is a liar’ is a phrase you will have heard throughout this week, and even though our sample size is small, there are grains of knowledge we can reap from what we saw. It’s time to separate the fact from the fiction and delve into three of my best bets for Week 2.
Saquon Barkley over 79.5 Rushing Yards v Tennessee Titans (-125)
Risk 1.25 units to win 1 unit.
Barkley rushed 15 times for 83 yards in Week One as the Eagles crept past the Washington Commanders 24-22. The offensive line’s performance was much maligned, as Barkley was hit before the line in seven of his first 12 rushes. In fact, according to Next Gen Stats, a whopping 78 of his 83 yards came after contact.
Left Guard Landon Dickerson now lands on IR, and despite the All-Pro's esteemed career, his play has declined in the past year. The Eagles have several young interior linemen ready to step up to the plate, with Drew Kendall potentially poised to fill in, so I’m actually expecting an upturn in run blocking performance. Barkley was least efficient running to Dickerson’s side.
Tennessee’s performance against the New York Jets left a lot to be desired - across the whole field. They were blown out 23-10, as Breece Hall rushed for 102 yards on 22 carries. I would expect a similar workload for Barkley heading into Week 2; he played 82% of the snaps against the Commanders, and the Eagles posted a pass rate over expected (PROE) of -5.9%. The Eagles are 6.5-point favourites heading into this one, the game script favours a dominant running game to run the clock with a healthy lead.
Parker Washington over 57.5 Receiving Yards v Denver Broncos (-125)
Risk 1.25 units to win 1 unit.
The Parker Washington hype is real, and I’m buying all the way in. Admittedly, this is a tough matchup against one of the better pass defences in the league, and he could see a fair amount of Pat Surtain II. However, the Jaguars blew out the Broncos 34-20 last year as Washington caught six passes on 10 targets for a career-high 145 yards. Since then, he has not accrued fewer than 80 receiving yards in a single game.
Washington only ran 18 routes v the Browns in Week 1, playing just 61% of the snaps – but this was due to Jacksonville’s healthy lead from the first quarter. His 28.57% target share and 4.61 yards per route run (YPRR) are both good enough for top 10 in the league, and I’m expecting an even bigger workload this week. The Jaguars, despite Denver’s woes on defence against the Chiefs, are 2.5-point underdogs. In theory, this should lead to a much-increased pass rate than in Week 1; with that being said, the Jaguars are real live dogs in this one, don’t be surprised to see the upset.
Quick note: Washington’s average depth of target (aDOT) last week was 17; I do also like his line of 4.5 receptions to go over, but I am wary that he wasn’t receiving a lot of the "easy button" passes. However, it was the Browns, and it was a very straightforward win, so the sample from last week will not tell the full story.
Baker Mayfield over 1.5 Passing Touchdowns v Cleveland Browns (-130)
Risk 1.3 units to win 1 unit.
This is one of my favourite props of the week, and for once there is little statistical reasoning to back it up. Let me walk you back to March 2022... the Browns have acquired Deshaun Watson via trade from the Houston Texans. Fast forward to July, and Baker Mayfield is thus traded to the Carolina Panthers, and you know how the rest of the story goes. This is Mayfield’s first ever duel against Watson, and just his second v Cleveland, but crucially his first with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The Buccaneers had a nightmare v the Bengals in Week One. They turned it over via fumble four times, including three on consecutive drives – two in their own half, one in the red zone. For added context, the Bucs only coughed it up five times in the entirety of the 2025 season. Despite this, they only lost by six points, and now they get an all-time get-right matchup against a putrid Cleveland Browns defense and, quite frankly, franchise. Watson has been an unmitigated disaster, Myles Garrett was traded in the offseason, and there are huge question marks over whether the defence can return to the level it was at under former defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz. Did I mention Trevor Lawrence threw for four touchdowns against this defence last week?
Mayfield had seven red zone touches against the Bengals, and I have no doubt the Browns will turn the ball over to give the Bucs opportune field position. While Mayfield has played down the ‘revenge game’ narrative, we saw how he singled out Jets defensive coordinator Steve Wilks last season – Wilks, of course, the head coach during Mayfield’s brief stint in Carolina.
And that’s your three. I love the Baker Mayfield pick; I cannot imagine a more pumped-up individual this week than the man playing against the team that discarded him to the side for a shiny new quarterback via trade. And they’re coming off a Week One horror show on offence? Oh brother. Barkley will be back to his booming best with a reshuffled Eagles offensive line, and can anyone stop Parker Washington? Thanks for reading, and let’s have ourselves a Sunday. Let’s go!
