Squirrel Patrol’s Week 17 NFL Christmas Classic Slate DFS GPP Picks
Christmas is here, and the NFL is shoving a three-game slate stuffed with backup quarterbacks right down our chimney. We kick things off at 1:00 PM ET as the Cowboys (-7.0) head to Washington to take on the Commanders in a game with a 50.5-point total, the highest of the slate by far. The next present under the tree features the Lions (-7.5) traveling to Minnesota at 4:30 PM ET, with a total of 43.5 points. And for our last stocking stuffer, the nightcap brings the Broncos (-13.5) to Kansas City to face Chris Oladokun and the Chiefs with a coal-like 36.5-point total. I’ll be loading up on the eggnog early for this one.
Much like a long Christmas Day stretched between gifts, meals, and naps on the couch, the more-than-three-hour gaps between kickoffs are worth paying close attention to. That spacing opens the door for strategic late swaps, making them far more manageable – and exploitable - than on a typical Sunday main slate, especially if you’re willing to stay awake and check the inactives list twice.
The major injury stories for the slate are the third-string quarterbacks we’ll be seeing in each game. Josh Johnson will likely be taking over for Marcus Mariota for the Commanders in the first game, Max Brosmer will be making the start for the Vikings in the middle game, and Chris Oladokun will get the nod for the Chiefs in the last game. Jordan Mason, Rashee Rice, Ryan Flournoy, Pat Bryant, and T.J. Hockenson all seem like longshots to play, but check the Wednesday practice reports and the inactives list for final confirmation.
The strategy for these three-game slates is just as important as the picks, so I’ll highlight some of the main points here:
