Perfect Fantasy Football Draft: 1st in a 12-Team Yahoo Half-PPR League

If you received the first overall pick in your 12-team Yahoo Half-PPR league, congratulations! You can pick the best player in fantasy football this year if you choose correctly. The debate about who that player is, however, will rage until the players put on the pads in September, but one thing is certain. Every player in the fantasy football player pool is available to you.
The main decision at the top pick is whether to go wide receiver or running back. Assume that you draft a tier-one running back from the top of the draft—fantasy managers can then double down on wide receivers at the 2-3 turn. Similarly, going wide receiver first allows you to double-tap running backs with your second and third round picks.
The major disadvantage to drafting at the turns, of course, is the long wait between picks and the risk of a whole run passing you by. But by playing things smart, you can be at the front end of runs and take advantage of other players who have dropped because of a positional run.
In this article, I will walk through my favorite players in each round that should be available to me based on multi-site Yahoo ADP and discuss my overall draft strategy from this spot.

My Plan of Attack When Drafting 1st in a 12-Team Half-PPR League
Roster Settings: 1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 TE, 1 FLEX (WR/RB/TE), 1 Kicker, 1 DEF, seven bench spots
The initial selection in a first-overall position will have heavy implications on how we build out our roster for the rest of the draft. I typically like to go running back in the first round, but with a player available who might lap the field again with receiving fantasy points, the choice is a difficult one.
No matter what route is taken, there will be excellent players available at running back, wide receiver, tight end, and quarterback at the 24th and 25th picks,
Though you have to wait quite a while for our second selection, you be back-to-back in each round after that, and you won’t have to worry too much about targets being snatched away from us after we make our initial pick on each turn.
