Fantasy Football Quarterback Streaming Week 3: The Return of Jimmy Garoppolo

OK, now I feel like football’s back. Adam Schefter barged into my weekend with the news about Michael Pittman, forcing me to rethink most of my lineups. It was the sudden adrenaline shot we needed to remember how quickly things change. But, hopefully, we’ve got time to take a breather as we head into Week 3. First, let’s see how the Week 2 streamers played out.

Week 2 Results

Accountability is important, but I do a quick review each week to try and address the “why.” Understanding the “thesis of the play” puts us in a better position to find the optimal targets each week.

I said I was pushing my luck when I recommended Wentz. And there was an easy chance things could've gone the other way. But the environment worked in Wentz’s favor as the Lions forced Washington’s hand. Regardless, they maintained their high passing rate, with Wentz operating as a mildly efficient passer (13th in EPA per play). Washington has a tougher matchup in Week 3, so he’d be a tougher sell for streaming purposes.

Given their personnel and matchup, I had some hope for the Panthers’ offense. But they’ve still got work to do. They had two drives of more than six plays. On those drives, Carolina only accumulated 83 yards. They didn’t even score. If we can’t even bank on the Panthers taking advantage of a weak opponent, we’ll need to look elsewhere moving forward.
