Forecasting 2019 NFL Rookie LB Success: 3-Year Model

The 2019 NFL Draft is now in the books, giving us dozens of new defensive players to consider for our fantasy teams. In this article, I will discuss some of the key rookie linebackers to focus on going into 2019 fantasy drafts.

There is widespread agreement that the top two linebackers in this draft class are Devin White and Devin Bush. My purely data-driven forecasts agree: these two are well ahead of any other options.

Unfortunately, since that fact is widely known, neither is likely to be available cheaply in fantasy drafts. Below, we will discuss some linebackers that may be available at a discount.

Forecasting Linebacker Success

Last year, I built a pair of data-driven models for predicting college linebacker success in the NFL, following the approach I used previously with wide receivers. The first is a standard statistical model (built using logistical regression) and the second is a more sophisticated machine learning model. The odds reported below are the average of the two models, which tends to be more accurate than either model individually.
