Broncos Beat: Team trusts RB RJ Harvey

When asked postgame if his trust in the run game changed without J.K. Dobbins, HC Sean Payton gave a clear vote of confidence to RJ Harvey.

“It’s nothing to do with the runner,” Payton said postgame. “Nothing.”

“We’ll watch the tape,” Payton continued, asked on his evaluation of Harvey. “But, trust me. It was just looks where the evaluation will be on how we blocked it, and then the scheme, relative to what we were seeing defensively. The runners were good.”

Fantasy Impact:

Harvey is averaging just 3.1 YPC outside the tackles this season the story said, which is a reason why the team has missed Dobbins, who is lost for the season. In two games as a lead back, Harvey is averaging just 2.7 YPC. The story pointed out Harvey has missed some holes as of late, making the wrong cut. The good news is Harvey has improved his pass blocking, which will keep him on the field in more situations, and he's thriving as a goal line back. Harvey had 13 carries to McLaughlin's six against the Commanders, and Harvey should continue to be the back to play in the Denver offense.

The story started by saying the Broncos tried to sign Dameon Pierce, but he opted to sign with the Chiefs. Piece is formerly of the Texans. It's a sign the Broncos may be looking for help at the position with the loss of Dobbins. The story added Badie's role wasn't going to change as the third down back, so it leaves McLaughlin as the team's RB2. McLaughlin wound up earning six carries against Kansas City and two key goal-line reps in the third quarter, and could be in the line for plenty more in the coming weeks, the story pointed out.

Broncos I'm told are considering what to do with running back J.K. Dobbins and his foot injury. I was told placing him on injured reserve is being considered.

Fantasy Impact:

It would be a big loss for Broncos as Dobbins is the primary ball carrier with Harvey doing most of his damage in the passing game. Harvey has had seven games this season averaging 3.0 yards or less per carry. In those same games, he's had five carries or less. However, Harvey would likely be in line to see an increased workload. The good news is he's had three games averaging over 4.0 yards per carry. Badie would be next up, and would be worth a pickup in just about any fantasy format.

Broncos unofficial depth chart for Week 1 has J.K. Dobbins as the starting running back and RJ Harvey as RB2.

Tyler Badie is No. 3 and Jaleel McLaughlin No. 4.

Fantasy Impact:

We've seen some depth charts all over the place today as teams have begun to post them. While you can't always trust them exactly, there could be some stock in this one as we've heard Dobbins and Harvey were battling it out for the top spot. Harvey should get his share of work as well, but owners maybe have to think twice about starting him Week 1 until we see how the workload is split up. It's a good sign for Dobbins he's made an impact through camp and the preseason.
