Annoyed Favre addresses schism report

Brett Favre said today that he doesn’t know what schism means — definition is “a separation or division into factions” — but the veteran quarterback was clearly annoyed to have his name tied to that word in an ESPN report that was published on Wednesday. Speaking to a large group of reporters after the Vikings practiced, Favre discussed the word that caused a mini-controversy just over a week into his tenure with the team.

“I don’t even know what that means, I’ve got no reaction,” Favre said. “I’m just doing what I can do to hopefully help this team win and just trying to fit in. I’m not worried about that. That’s for you guys to have some fun with. Once again, I have no idea what that means. I’m assuming it’s controversial.”

Favre said he feels his reception in the locker room — which came two weeks after training camp opened — has been “fine” and admitted he’s still learning some of the names of his teammates. That doesn’t come as a surprise considering there are still 79 guys on the roster. ”Most of the guys I know,” he said. “I’m trying to get a comfort level. The plays for me are pretty familiar with what I’ve run in the past but how guys run them to me is the most important thing.

“Obviously, chemistry is maybe the most important factor in winning and losing and we have some work to do in that area. I’ve been here a little over a week and that’s the reason that there is work to do. The locker room has been fine. I don’t know what it was like before I got here. I wasn’t here. I know every guy in that room wants to win and we’re going to do everything we can do to try to see that that happens.”

Favre expressed his displeasure with this latest report by saying, “You guys have to keep stirring the pot I guess. Somebody has to make up a story like this. I can assure you, I don’t think any guy in the locker room, me included, would use that word. We’d probably come up with something a little different. You guys have to come up with something a little more locker-room related. I can’t even remember what it was.”
