WR Torry Holt has built a reputation as a teacher during his 11-year NFL career. Don’t expect that to change now that the 33-year-old is battling for a job with the same young players he’s tutoring.

“That’s what it’s all about,” Holt said after yesterday’s workout. “That’s the beauty of sports - competing. We do a lot as athletes to . . . give ourselves a chance to compete. A lot of young guys, a lot of veteran guys, a lot of guys who are proven. But the environment is still competitive, and that’s all you can ask for.”

Holt came to the Patriots [team stats] with a Super Bowl ring earned during a long tenure in St. Louis. He also spent a productive season with the Jacksonville Jaguars [team stats]. Thus far with the Pats, Holt has made it a priority to learn from his new teammates.

Holt might not have the speed he once boasted, but he believes he still can contribute.

Fantasy Impact:

Holt may not even last long with the Pats, much like Joey Galloaway last year. But if he makes the team he may have some value, especially if Wes Welker can't start the season.
