The Cardinals are planning to open the practice window for QB Kyler Murray today, the first step in a slow process to ramp him up, coach Jonathan Gannon said. Murray and the team will be smart with his return from an ACL tear, but being on the practice field is a good step.

It would likely help fantasy managers if the Cardinals won a couple of games, as there is still no assurance that they would not shut him down for the year if it's already a lost season. Regardless, this is a good sign that we may see him on the field at some point in 2023.

It sounds like Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray is getting closer to his return to play after tearing his ACL last December.

Head coach Jonathan Gannon said in a Monday radio interview with Arizona Sports 98.7 that Murray is doing a “good job” in his rehab, adding he liked the week that the quarterback had.

“We’ve got to kind of see here the next couple days, see how tonight goes and tomorrow goes, and again, though, we’re not rushing that,” Gannon said, via Bob McManaman of the Arizona Republic, who noted that Gannon was hinting “very strongly” that Murray is making enough progress to be designated to return. “We’re making sure that he feels good about going out there, but he’s trending in the right direction.”

Dobbs has filled in fairly nicely for the Cards so far this season, but the team will at least need to see what they have with Murray and their offense at some point. The Cards will eventually have a decision to make - trade Murray and draft a QB of the future, or keep Murray after signing him to a longterm deal.

Arizona head coach Jonathan Gannon told Arizona Sports' "Burns and Gambo Show" that he expects Kyler Murray to play this season, but the team did place him on the physically unable to perform list, meaning he'll at least miss the first four weeks.

Despite that extended absence and no concrete date for his return, it was somewhat curious, the story pointed out, to see the Cardinals name Murray as one of their six captains for the season, which is his fourth consecutive season with the title. The story also said the Cards still view Murray as a franchise quarterback and a leader of the organization.

And now the Cardinals have released veteran QB Colt McCoy, per league sources.

If the Murray news turns out true, he would be ineligible to be active during the first four games of the season, which doesn't come as a huge surprise. The McCoy release now means newly acquired Dobbs or rookie Tune will get the start in Week 1.

Moore, who was dealing with a groin injury, played in seven full games and in all but two had six or more catches. Twice he went for more than 90 yards receiving but had just one touchdown in that span. He'll remain behind Hopkins and Brown heading into the 2023 season with a big question at QB and whether or not Murray will be ready.

The Cards will have a lot of questions heading into the offseason due to the timing of this injury and whether or not Murray can even come back and play at all next season. The team could use a stop-gap QB or draft and develop one. Murray owners will want to keep track of his offseason recovery, but those in keeper leagues or dynasty leagues will likely have decisions to make as well.

There is "little doubt that it’s torn," a source told me, referring to the quarterback's ACL.

Murray is expected to have an MRI but owners should expect to be without him for the rest of the season. McCoy has flashed filling in for Murray at times this season, despite some struggles against the Patriots. Most importantly, DeAndre Hopkins and Marquise Brown shouldn't lose a ton of fantasy value with McCoy under center. The team is likely to lean on James Conner at RB. The Cards don't have great matchups, though, traveling to Denver this week, hosting the Bucs, before traveling to Atlanta in Week 17 and San Francisco in Week 18. Perhaps the bigger question at this point will be Murray's timeline for the 2023 season.

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray was carted off the field on Monday night against the New England Patriots after suffering a knee injury.

It was a non-contact injury, and he was transported off the field with a towel covering his head. Colt McCoy will replace him and it doesn't look like that will change for the rest of the season.

The Cards eluded to Murray not starting on Monday night because of a banged up offensive line, which in turn left McCoy injured and unable to finish the game. Now it looks like Murray will be good to go in Week 12. The Cards host the Chargers in a late afternoon game, but Murray owners probably still need a backup plan just in case.

Murray has missed two games since tweaking his hamstring in the Nov. 6 game against the Seahawks. Kingsbury said the Cardinals having “four of those [offensive] linemen down” for Monday night’s game ultimately made the decision to sit Murray another week, according to the story. That could also be why McCoy is now "banged up a little bit," the story added.
