Patriots officially announce QB Jacoby Brissett as Week 1 starter

Patriots HC Jerod Mayo just informed his team that Jacoby Brissett will be New England’s Week 1 starting quarterback vs. the Bengals.

The favorite to start in the battle with rookie QB Drake Maye now gets the Week 1 nod. But Maye’s time is coming.

Fantasy Impact:

Maye's mobility should help alleviate some of the pressure this below-average line will create, but we'll have to wait to see it. Brissett should be kept on waiver wires during his starting stint.

Week 17 vs San Francisco 49ers

Jacoby Brissett once again stepped in for a struggling Sam Howell last week, and he looked much more efficient completing 10 of his 13 passes for 100 yards and a touchdown. Brissett has looked great in mop-up duty the past two weeks, so much so that he's taken over the starting role for Week 17. He's looked so good that he could be a tempting option at QB this week, until you realize he's playing the 49ers (7th aFPA). Brissett might have a lot of pass attempts this week in a game that has blowout potential, but he's a hard option to trust in most people's championship week in fantasy. We'd likely look elsewhere for your QB needs in Week 17.
