On Monday, head coach Shane Steichen said that he is “always self-evaluating everything” and said there were “absolutely” chances to run the ball after watching the film of the loss but that the scoreboard helped dictate the move in the other direction.

“Sometimes the game, the flow of the game will kind of dictate how it’s called there,” Steichen said, via Joel A. Erickson of the Indianapolis Star. “You’re down two scores in the fourth quarter. Could I have popped a run in there? Absolutely, but I decided to throw it there towards the end.”

The story went on to say Taylor had 11 carries for 94 yards over the first two quarters, but he didn’t get much of an opportunity to build on it in the second half. Taylor ran once for a yard on the first play of the third quarter, but the Colts went with Moss as their back on the next possession and then went three-and-out with three passes to open the fourth quarter. The Saints would go up 15 points before the next Colts drive and running was off the table for the rest of the 38-27 loss.

In his first public comments since June, Colts’ RB Jonathan Taylor told reporters: “It feels really good to be healthy. The main goal was to be healthy and play football.” Taylor is physically ready to play.

We're still waiting to hear something concrete on his role in the offense for Week 5, but it sure seems like he will be out there. Expect a split backfield right out of the gate, but Taylor should have a majority role with Moss spelling him.

Welp, I guess that's that? If Taylor is fully healthy and back with the team in a full capacity, nothing is keeping him from retaking hold of the backfield. We'll keep an eye on the situation, but it seems like business as usual with the Colts and the former fantasy stud.

A report this weekend said that the Colts would open running back Jonathan Taylor’s window to return from the physically unable to perform list this week and head coach Shane Steichen confirmed it on Monday.

Steichen said that the process will begin on Wednesday and that the plan is for Taylor to practice with the team for the first time this year. Taylor also requested a trade this offseason because the team has not shown interest in giving him the long-term contract he wants, but Steichen said Taylor is excited about getting back to work with the team. Steichen also said that Taylor could play in Week 5 against the Titans and that how Taylor looks on the practice field will determine whether that happens, the story went on to say. What a strange situation this has turned into. Owners should monitor his progress this week. One would assume if Taylor is ready to go he could at least be a flex option in lineups, but there's a lot of information we'll need between now and then. The Colts host the Titans in an early game in Week 5.

Even with Taylor eligible to return, that doesn't necessarily mean the team has to get him on the field, whether they want to trade him or they want to actually activate him from PUP. The preseason designation felt like a resolution, but there are still multiple paths that keep Taylor off the field for longer than one more game.

We have signed G Arlington Hambright to the 53-man roster from the practice squad, signed RB Trey Sermon to the practice squad, and waived T Ryan Hayes.

Sermon was on the Eagles last year and saw plenty of action this summer in preseason games before eventually getting cut. The Colts rode Moss last week as their RB1 as he collected 22 touches and a touchdown. But the team is likely looking for some depth at the position. Jackson didn't have a touch in Week 2 with the return of Moss and Hull remains on IR.

It's another blow to a struggling Colt running game that didn't get much of a chance to see what Hull could do before he got hurt in Week 1. Jackson wasn't great but could be in line for at least a lot of snaps in Week 2. We've seen reports that Moss could also return this week from an arm injury.

The story was mainly about the struggles of the Indy running game in Week 1. Jackson fumbled twice in the game and Hull was injured early. Moss was the team's RB1 to close out last season. Hull showed promise in camp, but is going to miss some time according to the story. So a Moss return could mean he slides right back into the RB1 spot for Week 2, and it's something to monitor this week. The team could also bring in another back, and the story mentioned Kareem Hunt.

Not good timing for the Colts who put Jonathan Taylor on IR and lost Moss to an arm injury this summer. That now leaves Jackson as the team's main back, pending an update on Moss sometime this week. The Colt RBs weren't really a factor in Week 1, outside of QB Anthony Richardson. Jackson did have five catches for 14 yards but outside of that carried 13 times for just 14 yards. The Colts have a winnable game in Week 2 at Houston so Jackson will likely have some fantasy value when our rankings come out later this week.

Colts RB Zack Moss was downgraded to doubtful for Sunday’s opener against the Jaguars with a forearm injury.

Moss was previously questionable for the game, so this is typically not a good sign for his chances to play on Sunday. That would leave Deon Jackson and rookie Evan Hull as the lead backs for the Colts with Jonathan Taylor on the PUP list. The edge for fantasy purposes goes to Jackson, but even at that, he’s a flex play at best against a good Jaguars defense and in a young Colts offense.
