Amid reports that he might not make the final roster, Vikings veteran receiver Bobby Wade has reduced his 2009 base salary, according to a source close to the situation.
Wade was scheduled to make $2.95 million this year but has agreed to cut that in half, according the source.
The team concession is that Wade will become a free agent after this season. That is important for Wade, because he turns 29 in February.
Before this contract tweak, Wade was signed through 2011, with base salaries of $2.7 million in the next two seasons. Wade originally signed a five-year, $15 million contract with the Vikings that included $4 million in guarantees in March 2007. Since then, he has led the team in receptions the past two seasons.
But Wade, the team's primary slot receiver, has seen his snaps reduced with the addition of first-round pick Percy Harvin.
