Lions beat: Swift injury may cost him snaps at beginning of season

Lions rookie RB D’Andre Swift’s lingering leg injury could possibly lead to him losing snaps in the early portion of the season to Kerryon Johnson.

Fantasy Impact:

Swift has not practiced since suffering the injury August 20 and, as Birkett notes, Swift is now in catch-up mode due to the lack of a formal offseason and now this injury with just two weeks before the Lions begin their season against the Chicago Bears.

Head coach Matt Patricia also shared some concern. "I think (missing time) in general, with rookies, is a concern," Patricia said before practice Friday. "Just in general with a normal season when we have the spring and we have the preseason and when we get to the regular season, things happen a lot quicker and they’re a little bit more complex than what we’ve seen.“

If you haven’t drafted yet, grabbing Johnson for the early stretch of the season now has more value, as we’ll monitor how quickly Swift gets back into the swing of things and how long before he starts sharing more of the workload with Johnson.
