The New England Patriots continue to struggle with their depth at wide receiver.

Phillip Dorsett left New England’s Week 5 matchup against the Washington Redskins with a hamstring injury.

If Dorsett misses time, Meyers and Olszewski move up the depth chart behind Julian Edelman and Josh Gordon. The Pats may very well need to bring in another option.

Honestly, we have no idea. We’re throwing our hands in the air. The Patriots released Demaryius Thomas but are expected to bring him back. He’d be in the mix with Phillip Dorsett, Jakobi Meyers and NKeal Harry for that No. 3 role, as well. Julian Edelman is the only guarantee for Week 1. Josh Gordon will probably take on an almost full share of snaps as the No. 2, but he might need to work on his conditioning after missing training camp. Dorsett has the best rapport with Brady. Meyers had the best training camp. Harry has the most potential but hasn’t played or practiced in full since Week 1 of the preseason because of an injury. He’s a candidate for IR. Thomas had the best preseason game, putting up seven catches for 87 yards with two touchdowns in Week 4. Our best guess is Dorsett and Meyers share the No. 3 role and wind up with around the same amount of snaps in Week 1. If Thomas comes back, then maybe he and Dorsett share that role.

There is a lot of information to process here, but it looks like Gordon will be the team's WR2, at least once he's back in ideal shape. The WR3 role is up in the air but could have a fantasy impact with Gronk out of the picture. James White will also be a big factor in the passing game out of the backfield, but it looks like Dorsett and Meyers are guys to keep an eye on.

As of Oct. 1 at 12 a.m. ET, the New England Patriots officially added another weapon to their offensive arsenal. Wide receiver Julian Edelman’s suspension for violating the NFL’s performance-enhancing drug policy ended at midnight. He now can return to Gillette Stadium, practice and talk football with players and coaches.

Edelman will return atop a Patriots wide receiver depth chart that also includes Hogan, Dorsett, Gordon and Patterson. Hogan, Dorsett and Patterson are most likely to see their snaps decrease with Edelman back in the fold. Gordon played 18 snaps in his Patriots debut Sunday, but his work figures to increase as he gets more comfortable in the offense.

Wide receiver Phillip Dorsett suffered a leg injury during an 11-on-11 drill and spent about a minute on the ground before he walked to the blue medical tent alongside two trainers.

Dorsett isn't expected to miss time, according to a source.

"Just a little scare," one source said.

The story went on to say Dorsett emerged from the tent and watched the remainder of practice. He played catch, from a stationary position, with a staffer afterward. Dorsett walked off the field with his teammates, and came back out to retrieve his pads. Dorsett indicated that he was “all right” as he exited.

The Patriots’ final training camp practice didn’t end without a scare as Phillip Dorsett needed medical attention. Dorsett slipped on a crossing route in 11-on-11 drills, according to multiple reports.

He walked off the field on his own and returned from the medical tent to catch passes on the side from a staffer.

The Patriots, of course, were sharing no information on Dorsett’s condition, the story said.

The New England Patriots have a significant void to fill with receiver Julian Edelman’s four-game suspension for violating the league's PED policy to open the 2018 season, and the first five practices of training camp have provided an early snapshot of how it might unfold.

The biggest winners? Receiver Phillip Dorsett, tight end Jacob Hollister, and running back Rex Burkhead.

Things can always change, the story said, and they probably will in some form, but what the initial stretch of training camp reinforced is that the Patriots are going to tap into all positions to account for the loss of Edelman. The story said the Pats were also using sets with two RBs on the field and it mentioned more two-TE sets could be in store, which may put Hollister on the fantasy radar.

Welcome back, Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski. The two captains haven't been participating in the Patriots' voluntary offseason program, but owner Robert Kraft said he expected them both to be present at mandatory minicamp.

These camps are considered mandatory. As the story said, the key to having Brady at minicamp will be to develop connections with a group of receivers that hasn't spent a lot of time with the QB. Author Mike Reiss said this could be the week where a small part of the foundation is laid.

Wide receiver Chris Hogan returned to action after missing four games with a right shoulder injury, and that had a trickle-down effect on the New England Patriots' depth chart.

"It was good to be back out there with the guys, and be playing," said Hogan. "I missed being out there with them."

Hogan went right back to his role as a top-2 receiver alongside Brandin Cooks, which pushed Phillip Dorsett down the depth chart. Dorsett didn't play an offensive snap, joining backup quarterback Brian Hoyer as the only players on the 46-man roster to not play.

The bad news was Hogan was targeted five times and had one catch for one yard in the game. Those numbers should obviously improve, but without showing fantasy production, Hogan remains risky for lineups especially during fantasy playoffs. He played on 55 snaps, second only at WR to Brandin Cooks' 60.

Chris Hogan made his way to South Florida with the Patriots on Sunday. And not to watch.

Tom Brady and the Patriots offense have gone without Hogan since he injured his shoulder late in a Week 8 win over the Chargers. It's unclear how much he'll play, but after four practices this week in Foxboro, he's going to give it a go Monday night against the Dolphins.

Hogan appears to be a risky fantasy play, though. Obviously we'll know his official status about an hour or so before the game starts, but it looks like he's going to go. Hogan could also give the offense a huge boost with TE Rob Gronkowski suspended. His return potentially hurts the snap count for Dorsett who had taken over the WR2 spot at least in terms of snap counts.
