Cam Newton tests positive for COVID, out for Sunday

Patriots QB Cam Newton tested positive for COVID-19 and is out for Sunday's game against the Chiefs.

Fantasy Impact:

This is arguably the first big domino of the COVID-affected NFL season. Obviously the Titans had their breakout but no big players were reported (as of yet). But this is huge. Newton is the first big name in season to test positive. Fortunately, Schefter reports there is no spread so far within the Patriots organization. Newton is out for Week 4 and obviously has to already be considered questionable for Week 5 when the Patriots host the Broncos. This all depends on how quickly Newton recovers. The rules state a player can return to the team ten days after the initial positive test (which would rule Newton out for Week 5) or five days since the initial test and the player received two consecutive negative tests at least 24 hours apart during that five-day period. As for Sunday, Brian Hoyer will likely get the start against the Chiefs. The offense takes a step back for fantasy and the Chiefs now look like quite the daily play for Week 4.
