San Diego Chargers wide receiver Keenan Allen suffered a hip flexor injury Sunday that will be tested on Monday, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

He finished Sunday's 27-20 loss against the Green Bay Packers with 14 receptions for 157 yards but missed the entire fourth quarter with the hip injury. He had 11 catches for 128 yards in the first half alone.

Allen said Sunday his hip "kept pulling me," according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. "I couldn't really run like I wanted to."

Allen does not believe the injury to be serious, the source said in the story. We can't always trust what a player says regarding an injury and his status for Week 7 is in question at least the way things stand right now.

The San Diego Chargers were on the brink of handing the Green Bay Packers their first regular season loss at Lambeau Field since December of 2013, but Keenan Allen, well on the way to a new franchise record for receptions, was lost to a hip injury and he took much of the team's momentum with him.

Allen was in the middle of an incredible performance at the time of his injury. The third-year wide receiver had already reached 14 catches and 157 yards midway through the third quarter, and his team had fought back from a 17-3 deficit to tie the game.

But on his 14th catch, he was slow to get up. He pointed at his hip when a trainer checked on him, and walked under his own power into the locker room for evaluation. Allen returned to the game shortly after, but eventually was ruled out for the remainder of the game with what the team characterized as a hip injury. The Chargers are home against Oakland in Week 7 in a late afternoon game.

In the race for the U-T's highly coveted Chargers Training Camp MVP award, several candidates have emerged. Keenan Allen, who has lost weight and is moving well, is the early leader. He has made a wide variety of plays, such as a touchdown catch Wednesday, off a fade against Jason Verrett. Several others are having a strong camp, incuding Stevie Johnson, Verrett, Branden Oliver and Melvin Ingram.

Allen was a victim of the “sophomore slump,” finishing #46 in standard formats after a #17 finish as a rookie in 2013. He has lost some weight in order to increase his speed and quickness, so that he can better deal with the attention he’s going to receive as his team’s top receiver. He’s also taking his preparation more seriously, per reports. We’re expecting Allen to bounce back in his third year, but it may be a stretch to expect a return to the heights of his rookie season.

Chargers beat writer Eric D. Williams feels WR Keenan Allen will benefit from the loss of Eddie Royal and see more time out of the slot.

Williams feels Allen has short-area quickness and will be able to move around more to create miss-matches. The Chargers also signed Stevie Johnson who can play the slot, but Williams thinks Allen benefit the most. Allen started off his sophomore season slowly after being a second-tier fantasy WR last summer, but did show signs of his successful 2013 rookie year later in the 2014 season.
