The Tennessean - [Full Article]

Aside from a big game against the Browns on Oct. 2, when he scored on an 80-yard catch-and-run, Cook has been inconsistent. In four games he had two catches or less.

Palmer insisted he still has big plans for the third-year pro. Cook has 11 catches for 208 yards and leads the team in average yards per catch, thanks to the 80-yarder against the Browns.

“I am not disappointed in him at all,” Palmer said. “I’m actually pleased with what he is doing. I’m very pleased.”

Cook’s biggest issue, Palmer said, is the Titans have two veteran tight ends in Craig Stevens and Daniel Graham, and both are primarily blockers. So Cook is on the field for about a third of the offensive snaps.

“He is still making plays; he is still making catches, he is still doing things,” Palmer said. “I think when you say he is a tight end people think he is an every-down tight end. But he’s not.”

Fantasy Impact:

In the last two games, Cook is tied with WR Damian Williams with the most targets (15) for the Titans, so it appears that Matt Hasselbeck is growing more comfortable with him.

Since the second hour of training camp, the Broncos' running game has become a trot.

The top two tailbacks, Knowshon Moreno and Correll Buckhalter, couldn't make it to lunch. Three of the top run blockers — left tackle Ryan Clady, right guard Chris Kuper and tight end Daniel Graham — have watched most of the preseason in street clothes.

Buckhalter, Clady and Kuper are expected to put on pads for a few plays in the preseason finale tonight against the Minnesota Vikings at the Mall of America Field.

Otherwise, the frightening state of the Broncos' running game has become ready-or-not, here comes the regular-season opener in Jacksonville.

Many in the Denver crowd came hoping to get a glimpse of the future in Tim Tebow and instead got a peek at the past.

Cornerback Dre' Bly's 47-yard interception return set up Detroit's first touchdown in the Lions' 25-20 win over the Denver Broncos on Saturday night.

Bly, who played two seasons in Denver before his unceremonious release following coach Josh McDaniels' hiring in 2009, picked off a pass against the Broncos for the second straight preseason - he did it while with the San Francisco 49ers last year.

Two plays later, Matthew Stafford connected with Calvin Johnson for a 20-yard touchdown pass.

Detroit third-stringer Drew Stanton's 25-yard touchdown on a quarterback draw with 1:53 left was the difference. Brady Quinn drove the Broncos into Lions territory in the closing seconds before Willie Young stripped the ball away and Korey Bosworth recovered.

Tebow's home debut will have to wait at least another week. He sat out with bruised ribs he suffered in the exhibition opener a week ago, much to the disappointment of throngs of Broncos fans donning his No. 15 jersey at Invesco Field.

Kyle Orton, fresh off signing a one-year extension that bought some time for the Broncos to formulate their long-term plans at quarterback, completed 16 of 22 passes for 177 yards with two touchdowns and one interception in four first-half possessions.

Orton has thrown four TD passes in seven drives this preseason despite playing behind a makeshift offensive line, with the team's top three tailbacks sitting out and a turnstile of targets catching his throws.

Jabar Gaffney caught six passes for 98 yards, all from Orton.

Stafford was 13 of 20 for 130 yards, guiding the Lions to scores on all four of their first-half drives.

In all, 16 Broncos sat out, including Champ Bailey , D.J. Williams, Daniel Graham, Chris Kuper, Spencer Larsen, Brandon Stokley, and Demaryius Thomas, the team's top draft pick.

The Broncos hope most of them return next week to play against Pittsburgh in the all-important third preseason game.

Broncos LT Ryan Clady, recovering from offseason knee surgery, did footwork drills with strength coach Rich Tuten on the field a few hours before kickoff.

FS Louis Delmas (groin) sat out for Detroit (1-1).

More on the Brandon Marshall situation
Sunday, January 3, 2010, 12:07pm

ESPN.com - [Full Article]

Denver Broncos coach Josh McDaniels decided to bench wide receiver Brandon Marshall for the regular-season finale after he was late to a scheduled therapy session with the Denver medical staff for treatment of a hamstring injury the team already believed he was exaggerating, according to multiple team sources.

Both Marshall and tight end Tony Scheffler have been advised they will not be permitted on the sideline or in the locker room when the Broncos play the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday in a game with playoff implications.

The Broncos sent Marshall for an MRI on his hamstring after he complained of the injury during Wednesday's practice. According to team sources, the test indicated that Marshall's hamstring was healthy.

The latest showdown between the head coach and the Pro Bowl receiver actually began the week before when Marshall excused himself from practice, complaining the cold weather was making it difficult for him to breathe.

Then, as the team reviewed tape of its loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, in which Marshall dropped several passes, McDaniels mentioned that certain plays had to be made. Marshall apparently felt he was being unfairly singled out for criticism.

According to Broncos sources, the problems with Marshall and Scheffler came after team leaders including Brian Dawkins, Champ Bailey, Kyle Orton, DJ Williams and Daniel Graham all met with McDaniels on Monday and encouraged him to take a hardline approach in preparing the team to finish the season against the Chiefs.

That development, combined with a home loss to the Raiders, compelled McDaniels to emphasize the need for accountability in a full team meeting Wednesday. It was later that day when Marshall complained about his hamstring.

Scheffler was presumably demoted to the scout team after he was overheard telling teammates that he couldn't wait for Denver's season to end.
