The Patriots escaped with a 17-16 win over the New York Jets Sunday in a game in which they struggled to move the ball at times. Although they struggled, the Patriots improved to 12-3 and clinched a first-round bye.
Either way, Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, coming off an uneven game against the Jets, doesn't really want to take the week off and use the Bills game to rest up.
“After the last few weeks of football, I’d love to go out there and see if our offense can put together the best 60 minutes of football that we’ve put together in a long time," Brady said during his weekly appearance on WEEI's Dennis & Callahan Show. "We’ve been up and down as of late. We’ve got to start really putting some great football together here in these next [few weeks]. We got the bye. We’ve got to be able to win this week then we get the bye and then play at home. Hopefully we can take care of business the first week of the playoffs and then go from there.”
The Pats will have a chance to own the No. 1 overall seed if the Broncos lose to the Bengals tonight. Barring that, they can still seize the honor with a win over the Buffalo Bills next Sunday. If the Broncos lose Monday, it's very possible Brady sits at least part of Week 17.
