Squirrel’s Nuts & Bolts: Jaguars - Ravens TNF Showdown Strategy (Week 9 NFL DFS)

Update: This article was rewritten after 5:30 PM ET on Thursday for Bhayshul Tuten being active. The earlier version assumed he would be out.

Week 9 of the NFL season kicks off with an AFC Showdown between the Jaguars and the Ravens at M&T Bank Stadium. Kickoff is 8:15 PM ET, and the Jaguars are favored by 10 points on the road with the total set at 39.5 points.

The Jaguars are 5-2 after a 42-7 win over the Colts that gave them a three-game lead in the AFC South. Trevor Lawrence has 1,690 passing yards and four interceptions in seven games, and his 17 touchdown passes are third in the league for an offense that is fifth at 28.0 points per game. Bhayshul Tuten is 15th in the league with 492 rushing yards, and he had 159 scrimmage yards and two touchdowns on Sunday. He didn’t practice this week with ankle and foot injuries and was listed as questionable, but he is expected to play tonight. Chris Rodriguez Jr. has 45 carries for 209 yards and three touchdowns as the backup. Parker Washington leads the team with 48 targets, 432 receiving yards, and four touchdowns.

The Ravens are 4-4 and have lost three straight, including a 36-10 loss in Buffalo on Sunday that cost them two quarterbacks. Lamar Jackson dislocated his right thumb, Tyler Huntley injured his toe, and undrafted rookie Joe Fagnano finished the game, completing 10 of 21 passes for 91 yards with an interception and three sacks. Fagnano makes his first career start tonight after practicing in full on Tuesday with his right ankle heavily taped, and trade acquisition Jacoby Brissett isn’t expected to be available until Week 10. Derrick Henry is seventh in the league with 632 rushing yards and has eight rushing touchdowns, but he gets a Jaguars defense that is first in the league in both rushing yards allowed per game (77.4) and yards per carry allowed (3.4). Zay Flowers is eighth in the league with 608 receiving yards in seven games, and the Jaguars are 29th in passing yards allowed per game.

This Showdown gives us a 39.5-point total, a 10-point road favorite, and a rookie quarterback making his first start. Let’s break down this Thursday night AFC Showdown, highlight the key plays, and uncover the strategies that could help you climb the leaderboards.
