Week 16 Winning GPP Lineup Review

In this space each week, I will review the winning lineups from the DraftKings Millionaire Maker and the FanDuel Sunday Million. Analyzing top lineups can help to tease out lineup-building strategies and offer clues on how you could have landed on a similar team.

For the second time in as many weeks, and for only the second time all season, the winning lineup stacked four players from the same team.

This was only the second winning lineup over the last three years to stack six players from the same game.

Winning Millionaire lineups in 2022 have averaged 5.4 correlated players while winning FanDuel Sunday Million lineups have averaged 4.6 correlated players.

Flex

The field flexed running back in 38% of lineups, wide receiver in 41%, and tight end in 21%. Top-1% lineups only used three running backs in 19% of lineups, four wide receivers in 54%, and three tight end builds in 27%. It was only the second time this year that top-1% Millionaire lineups flexed tight end at a higher rate than the field.

Leverage

As seen back in Week 4, a heavy onslaught is a way to make a unique lineup from the most popular game on the slate, even if all the players in the stack are all around 10% or higher.

In a week where high-salary running backs carried heavy ownership, finding a punt play at the position helped with a unique roster construction. Chuba Hubbard was the less popular play in a running back timeshare that most DFS players avoided altogether but one that offered leverage off of D.J. Moore, the fourth-highest rostered player on the slate.

For the third time in as many weeks and the fifth time all season, the winning lineup didn’t use a secondary stack or mini-correlation. Over the previous two seasons combined, there were only six such winners.

Leverage

While Gardner Minshew was the most popular quarterback on the slate, ownership on the pass-catchers on both sides of that game was low. Double-stacking Minshew with a bring-back eloped offset is high ownership.

Derrick Henry was one of the most popular players on the slate. Playing the defense going against Henry provided direct leverage off of a chalk skill player.
