Streaming Quarterbacks: Week 6 Fantasy Football Targets
Two of our three QB streamer picks in Week 5 were top-7 at the position, with DeShaun Watson’s crazy run continuing and Brian Hoyer doing what quarterbacks do to the Colts defense. Watson posted a second straight QB1 week with 35.5 points, and Hoyer wasn’t too shabby either with 22.1 points.
For the season, our top QB streamer pick (26.6 fantasy points per game) continues to average more than the current QB1 in fantasy football (Alex Smith, 23.3 FP/G). The average of all of our QB streamer picks this season (16.2 FP/G) is more than Philip Rivers, Matt Ryan, Derek Carr and Ben Roethlisberger, just to name a few.
If that isn’t enough evidence that QB streaming is absolutely a viable strategy, take a look at the overall leaders in FP/G through five weeks at the position: Smith (QB1), Watson (QB2) and Carson Wentz (QB6).
Our quest continues in Week 6.
Our standard for this exercise will always be to select only quarterbacks owned in fewer than 40 percent of Yahoo! leagues. We will use that standard as not to be accused of stretching the definition of “streamer” (plus, we like a challenge). It will also allow for similar potential on other sites.
We’ll focus on factors such as QB points per game, the opponent’s schedule-adjusted fantasy points allowed to quarterbacks (aFPA), and the Vegas implied team totals.
This week will get a little tougher, as Watson and Goff are no longer less than 40 percent owned on Yahoo!, and streaming options Andy Dalton and Tyrod Taylor are on byes.
Here are your QB streaming candidates for Week 6:
Jacoby Brissett (IND) @ TEN
Since Week 2 when he took over as the full-time starter, Brissett is averaging 16 FP/G, trading great weeks with subpar weeks. Off an 18-point day against the 49ers, he now gets to face the Titans defense that is still allowing the 3rd-most fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks, despite holding Jay Cutler to just 6.5 points last week. Brissett’s rushing ability in the red zone is raising his fantasy floor, with three rushing scores in the last three weeks. The Titans are also 31st in our aFPA vs. QB rankings. The Colts defense has also allowed the most points in the league, raising the odds this turns into a sneaky Week 6 shootout if Marcus Mariota starts for the Titans.
Brissett is owned in 12% of Yahoo! leagues.
