Davis injured his ankle leading up to Week 2 and didn't play on Monday might. It wasn't necessarily great news for McKenzie as there seemed to be a mix of McKenzie, Crowder, Shakir and Kumerow in what ended up being a blowout victory for Buffalo. It's a good sign for Week 3 Davis is at least logging some limited time Wednesday. The Bills do play an early Sunday game at Miami.
By Joe Buscaglia's count, Gabriel Davis missed only two snaps in the regular season kickoff, one of which was the kneel down to end the game. "Expect his snap counts to stay around a similar level all season.
With Stefon Diggs taking a step back in snaps counts —and still performing admirably with his 8-122-1 line— it left more room in the rotation for Davis, Isaiah McKenzie, and Jamison Crowder, who were utilized in that order. McKenzie and Crowder are likely to continue rotating, while Davis looks like he will be on the field as much, or even more than Diggs.
McKenzie has been one of the darlings of the summer and appears to have a nice connection with QB Josh Allen. It looks like McKenzie, as of now, has a chance to play Week 1 and serve as the team's WR3. We list McKenzie as a WR4 in our rankings heading into Thursday night. If he can't go, Crowder would fill in that role.
With the likes of WR Stefon Diggs and QB Josh Allen continually having their relationship at center stage, the contributions Cole Beasley made over the past few years were overlooked. However, the slot WR was consistently a safety valve for Allen in Buffalo and with his release this spring that job is up for grabs. Isaiah McKenzie has taken an early stranglehold on that position battle.
The story said McKenzie flashed a time or two in the past, but few expected McKenzie to become the clear favorite to take over Beasley’s role before a preseason game was even played. He's been one of the darlings of all the NFL camps this year and seems to collect positive press almost every day. The team signed Crowder to possibly fill that role but it's been McKenzie who is standing out.
