Fantasy Impact:

We'll see if this is just to get the team some more looks at Mitchell or if this will last into the season, but it's a good sign nonetheless. Smith is likely to start off as an explosive passing-down option and nothing else, while we all know what Hunt is at this point in his career.

Mitchell would be an RB5 option if he ends up leapfrogging Hunt.

The Chiefs are re-signing RB Kareem Hunt to a one-year, $1.5 million deal with incentives, per source.

Fantasy Impact:

With Hunt and Mitchell finding themselves in KC this week, it feels like the Chiefs will be passing on a rookie once again, which is good news for Pacheco. A full offseason removed from his fibula injury, he should be back in RB2 consideration.

The Chiefs have waived their former first-round pick Clyde Edwards-Helaire.

Fantasy Impact:

CEH missed some time this season for mental health reasons, an issue that goes back several years, but the Chiefs are pretty comfortable with their backfield after signing Hunt and recently getting Pacheco back from his leg injury. The team also has Perine and Steele. CEH often played key roles for the Chiefs in their playoff runs, so he may get another chance with another team, but likely isn't going to be fantasy-worthy in typical redraft leagues this season.

Fantasy Impact:

The post doesn't say Pacheco is returning this week but you can certainly read into it. The timeline for Pacheco has been late November for quite sometime, and here we are. The return of Pacheco will definitely eat into Hunt's fantasy value. Pacheco may be eased into things this week, a Friday game against the Raiders, but it's looking like playing Hunt in fantasy lineups going forward will come with risk, at least until we get a better feel for how the Chiefs are going to use both backs.
