Cowboys QB Dak Prescott (calf) is questionable for Week 8 against the Minnesota Vikings after having soreness following Thursday's practice.

If Dak cannot play Week 8, it would be a major downgrade to the pass catchers in Dallas. The Cowboys beat expects a resolution prior to Sunday.

Head coach Mike McCarthy wants to make sure Prescott is ready for Sunday night's game, so fewer reps during the week should be expected the new couple of days.

Dak Prescott wasn’t wearing a protective boot at the team’s facility on Monday and team owner Jerry Jones said on 105.3 The Fan Monday that the team feels positive about where Prescott is right now.

Dak injured his calf on the game's final play and was in a boot after the game. The bye week came at a good time and there hasn't seem to be a lot of concern with him missing time. Be sure to check out the injury report on Wednesday, it wouldn't be shocking to see him limited at least to start the week.

Mike McCarthy said the MRI just confirmed that Dak Prescott has a right calf strain. He will rest this week. The medical staff is “optimistic” he will be able to play against Minnesota after the bye week.

The bye week comes at the right time for the Cowboys. We may not hear a whole lot more about Prescott's status until later next week, but so far the news seems promising. Still, owners may want to start thinking about a backup plan for Week 8 - just in case.

Prescott will get an MRI on Monday, according to the team, and according to the story. He reportedly suffered a calf strain on the final play of the contest, a 35-yard touchdown strike to wide receiver CeeDee Lamb that ended the rollercoaster ride in Foxborough in dramatic fashion, giving Dallas a 35-29 victory. It's certainly worth monitoring as Prescott has been putting up elite fantasy stats for owners this year.

The Cowboys have preached patience and have talked down the severity of Dak's shoulder injury, and his expected participation will help ease some worried in the fantasy community. Prescott is not out of the woods and he has not played in the preseason so there is still legitimate concern about the short and long-term severity of the injury.

It's "just not worth the gain out here in practice to not get him the rest," Jerry says of Dak's pitch count. "Very common for pulls, muscle pulls, soft tissue-type injuries."

Epstein went on to tweet the Cowboys reiterated the belief is Dak's injury is from single incident, and they are not compensating for last year's ankle injury. The tweet quoted Jones as saying, "Any type of restriction he’s having right now in his routine 100% is about later in the season. I have no compunction about him going out and playing against Tampa."

Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy told reporters that QB Dak Prescott will continue to be limited at practice. “There’s a good chance he probably won’t play” Saturday against Houston, McCarthy said.

Prescott will continue to strengthen his arm but at some point concern for him being in game shape will set in. The good thing for Dak is he has a full, healthy stable of offensive talent surrounding him.
