Lions RB Smith looks to play in week 4

Kevin Smith is ready to hit Green Bay's Frozen Tundra running for his first game action of the season in his recovery from a severe knee injury.

Smith, who led the Lions in rushing the last two seasons, sustained a torn anterior cruciate ligament in Game 13 last season.

A toe injury to rookie tailback Jahvid Best in Sunday's 24-10 loss at Minnesota could open the way for Smith to play on Sunday. Maurice Morris and Aaron Brown are the other healthy tailbacks on the roster.

Smith was guardedly optimistic when he spoke about playing on Sunday.

“It's pretty clear-cut," Smith said Monday afternoon. “I pretty much know right know. I'll leave it until Wednesday."

Does he feel better about playing than he did a week ago?

“Yeah. Pretty much," Smith said. “Hopefully, it doesn't turn into a letdown."
