Another day, another Week 1 starting quarterback has been named.

According to NFL Media, Daniel Jones has gotten the nod over Anthony Richardson.

As the story points out, it's a stunning move considering the investment the Colts put into Richardson. The competition was reportedly close, but still doesn't seem like good news for Richardson's future in Indy. However, the door probably isn't closed for a change at some point, given the struggles Jones had to end his career with the Giants. Our own John Paulsen reminds us, however, that Jones has had a couple of competent seasons. He threw 24 touchdowns versus 12 picks as a rookie, and had a 15:5 touchdown-to-interception ratio back in 2022 when he went 9-6-1 as the Giants' starter. Given Jones’s ability to run the ball, he’s still an intriguing value pick. Any sort of recovery in his passing numbers would vault him into the QB2 conversation.

Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson Sr. is believed to have recovered from his recent right shoulder setback as the team prepares to report for training camp next week.

Richardson, who underwent season-ending surgery to repair an AC joint sprain in his throwing shoulder during the 2023 season, missed the final two weeks of the team's offseason practices in June after experiencing soreness in that shoulder.

Looks like we've got an old-fashioned QB battle on our hands, fantasy enthusiasts. Holder continues to note that Richardson will likely be evaluated next week and could be on a "pitch count" to avoid fatigue. If Richardson gets the nod to start most of the games this season, it will likely come with a shrinking target count for the Colts' pass-catchers, but he has proven to be a valuable fantasy asset due to his rushing. He is still a stay-away until deep in drafts, as we truly have no way of knowing how many games he can/will be allowed to play in.

Colts HC Shane Steichen says Anthony Richardson (shoulder) still has no timetable for return. He went out to LA to visit Dr. Neal ElAttrache, the doctor who performed his AC joint surgery, to have his AC joint rechecked.

Things continue to trend in a terrible direction for Richardson. The narrative has always been that the young QB needs more reps, whether that's in practice or real games, and he's had multiple issues delivering. The starting job could very (very) well be Daniel Jones' in Week 1, and the market has moved toward him starting far more games than Richardson in 2025.
