Jets head coach Adam Gase announced Sam Darnold will not play Sunday against the Eagles.

There was hope that Darnold would be able to return this week as the Jets are coming off of their bye week, but as Rich Cimini reports, Darnold was not cleared by doctors after taking tests last night. It will be another week of Luke Falk and likely another long day at the office for the Jets offense. Despite their struggles in the secondary, the Eagles defense is a very tempting option this week. The Jets have scored one offensive touchdown through three games. Things continue to get bleak for Gang Green.

Gase thinks Darnold’s strength & stamina are fine.

“You would see a fatigue if there was one. And we didn’t see that.”

Sam Darnold appears to have no fatigue at practice and his coach is ready to start him this week against the Eagles if he is medically cleared to play. His presence would be an upgrade for all of the fantasy pieces on the Jets.

Sam Darnold will practice today and "see how it goes," Adam Gase said. They are taking it day-to-day.

Getting a practice in on Wednesday is a good start for Darnold's availability for Sunday's matchup with the Eagles. If he can ramp up his practices as the week goes on, he will likely play.

Not quite the all-clear they were hoping for, Rapoport went on to say. Darnold has not lifted or ran or thrown since contracting mono, so he’ll ramp up this week. The hope is he can play in Week 5 in what is a nice matchup against the Eagles, but if he's not cleared, it's Falk who gets the start again.

The Jets play the Eagles in Week 5 after a bye in Week 4. Darnold has been back in the building for over a week now so the news continues to be positive for the starter and it looks like he'll be able to go in a couple of weeks.
