Another Monday night inactive surprise at RB: James Cook is out tonight due to his toe injury, per source. It’s the first NFL game in three seasons that Cook has missed.
Related players: Ray Davis, Ty Johnson, Frank Gore, Jr.
Cook is unable to go tonight. The Bills added to that speculation a few hours ago when they announced rookie RB Gore would suit up. Davis could be in line for the early down work with Johnson getting passing downs. Gore could also mix in as well. It will be a tough matchup against the Jets on the road.
"He definitely needs to touch the ball more, without a doubt." - Mike McCarthy on Rico Dowdle.
Related players: Ezekiel Elliott
Elliott was the only other RB to touch the ball, running 8 times for 17 yards in Week 6. Dowdle ran just 5 times but gained 25 yards. Dowdle was more involved in the passing game since the Cowboys fell behind early, and he caught 5 balls for 30 yards. Dowdle did touch the ball 22 times in Week 5 against the Steelers to Elliott's 6 rushes, so the Cowboys do seem to be trending away from the committee in favor of Dowdle, which was reported a couple weeks ago. The game script probably played a factor in Week 6. The Cowboys have a bye in Week 7 and come back to a game at San Francisco in Week 8 on Sunday night, so it's possible we see a more obvious use of Dowdle with any adjustments coming off the bye week.
The Cardinals have activated WR Zay Jones to the 53-man roster.
Relaetd players: Marvin Harrison Jr., Michael Wilson, Greg Dortch
The Cards suspended Jones for five games but he didn't return in Week 6 due to a hamstring injury. With Harrison dealing with a concussion, the Cards could possibly welcome the return of Jones to the lineup rather quickly. The WR group didn't do much for the Cardinals in Week 6 as Dortch went for 3-36-0 and Wilson 2-21-1. Jones is worth a pickup with the hope he climbs the depth chart and perhaps carves out a WR2 role.
