Sheriff's detectives continued yesterday to investigate the Shawne Merriman-Tila Nguyen episode in Poway over the weekend.
Merriman, the Chargers star linebacker, was arrested at his home early Sunday after Nguyen — a reality TV personality, social-networking queen and swimsuit model who goes by the name Tila Tequila — made a citizen's arrest accusing him of battery and false imprisonment.
Nguyen told sheriff's deputies Merriman choked her, threw her to the ground and refused to let her leave. Merriman said Nguyen was drunk and that he was trying to prevent her from driving.
Paul Levikow, spokesman for the district attorney, said once prosecutors get the report, they'll decide whether criminal charges are warranted, and if so, whether the alleged crime is a felony or a misdemeanor. Levikow said they also could ask for further investigation.
Nguyen's lawyer, Alan Gutman, last night told the celebrity news Web site TMZ.com that Merriman's story will be “completely discredited.”
