DraftKings Week 4 Cash Game Picks and Strategy

Below you'll find my Week 4 DraftKings cash game picks and strategy. By offering a general approach to the week, along with a player pool to consider, you should walk away feeling well-equipped no matter your bankroll strategy or game selection process.

In general, my cash game strategy revolves around the running back position. My main focus is to roster three running backs with workhorse-type roles that simultaneously allow me to build a high-floor lineup at the other positions. Certain weeks, we'll be able to jam in multiple high-priced running backs because of the value that presents itself at quarterback, wide receiver and tight end. Other weeks we may have to dip into the mid-range at running back because value hasn't emerged at the other positions. Because quarterback is a position with a narrower range of outcomes, it often makes sense to pay down for a signal-caller. As always it will depend on the makeup of the entire lineup, but I'll usually favor spending down at quarterback.

I'm not opposed to paying up at wide receiver or tight end if the constraints of the week dictate that it's the most prudent lineup construction. However, with the propensity to allot the most salary to the running back position, I usually attempt to roster the most targets per dollar at wide receiver. It often results in rostering mid-tier wide receivers and tight ends. Given the volatility and variance week-to-week in pass-catchers, it makes sense to not use a ton of salary there as a general rule of thumb. Defense/special teams usually comes down to the cheapest defense with a respectable matchup and a relatively high sack rate, as pressure is what creates the plays defenses need to score fantasy points.

UPDATE:

  • Ezekiel Elliott is now squarely in play for a double play up cash lineup due to CEH being a non-factor. Initially, I like paying down to CEH to get up to Hunter Henry in cash.
  • Adam Trautman enters the mix as an absolute punt with Jared Cook out. If you can create a lineup you're extremely happy with and only have $2.5k remaining, I don't mind slotting Trautman in.
  • Keep an eye on the eligibility of DeAndre Hopkins and Christian Kirk, as that opens up Andy Isabella at a cheap price.
  • With the savings that have opened up, I like adding the Buccaneers DST to the mix. They're a bit safer than the Texans and Bengals and also have a much higher ceiling as well.
  • Got a few questions about Deshaun Watson not being in the cash game write up. I'll start by saying I wouldn't fault anyone for playing him, but I'd rather save a bunch by going down to Ryan Fitzpatrick or just find the money to get up to a Russ/Allen/Dak type. The matchup is the best he's had all year, but I could also see this game being a slugfest.

Quarterback

Ryan Fitzpatrick ($5,400) jumped off the page at me pretty quickly. The game script should be in his favor in a road matchup with the Seahawks. The Seahawks have struggled defensively and there isn’t much of a home-field advantage to worry about these days, so it’s plausible Fitz goes into Seattle and hits value with relative ease. He has the rushing upside we always like to have. In three games this year he’s tacked on an average of four fantasy points per game on the ground, basically an extra passing touchdown. The Seahawks have allowed the most raw fantasy points per game to quarterbacks and Fitzpatrick are coming off back-to-back games of 25+ DraftKings’ points including a 300-yard performance against the Bills. I could see Seattle scoring quick and often in this game, giving the Dolphins a few extra possessions as well.
