Final Thoughts for the Last Draft Weekend

Updated 9/6

We’re entering the final week of fantasy drafts and the good news is that there have been no major COVID-19 outbreaks among the NFL teams, which are throwing a lot of resources at testing and tracking the virus. (It’s weird how that works, isn’t it?) Fantasy leagues can go ahead and hold their drafts with the understanding that, at the very least, we’re going to get a partial NFL season.

The last few weeks have not been uneventful, and my projections have changed considerably since early August. So while I keep all the depth charts updated and continue to refine my draft rankings, I thought it would be a good idea to check in with some of the late-breaking storylines that have developed over the last week or two.

Wait, Adrian Peterson was cut?!?

Washington has moved on from AP, and I found his comments to Josina Anderson pretty interesting.

"I just got notified by the running backs coach yesterday that they want to give these young guys some reps, but I didn't know I was going to get cut, there was no indication. ... Look, (Antonio) Gibson is a hell of a talent and this system really fits him. I feel like I can do that pony style too, more as a receiving back. We were all working on it, but they really want one main guy to do it and they drafted Gibson for it."

Ben Standig of The Athletic indicated that Gibson and J.D. McKissic were the top two backs, and that they "meshed seamlessly with (Scott) Turner's approach." Peyton Barber and Bryce Love "round out Washington's remaining running backs."

While adjusting rankings this morning, I was reminded of a tweet by 4for4 CEO Josh Moore from early July...

I felt like I took him in every draft prior to the release of Derrius Guice, because that's when his ADP rose into those middle rounds where I was normally drafting a lot of receivers. I still got a few post-Guice shares, but not as many as I did earlier in the summer.

So how does this backfield shake out in 2020?
