Panthers WR Jalen Coker limited to side work Thursday

Mike Kaye

Oct 01 · 2:36 PM EDT

Princely Umanmielen (ankle), Jalen Coker (quad) and Derrick Brown are all in uniform but are working with a trainer away from the rest of the group to start practice.

Darren Walller (toe), Monroe Freeling (red jersey - non-contact - concussion), and Chuba Hubbard all working with teammates.

Fantasy Impact:

Side work represents some progress from Wednesday’s absence, but Coker remains at risk of missing Sunday night’s game. His late kickoff makes a Friday update particularly important for managers considering him as a WR3 or flex. An absence would strengthen McMillan’s target outlook, while Waller could receive additional underneath work, and Carolina would need Tremayne, Metchie, or the injured Legette to absorb more WR reps.

Panthers WR Jalen Coker dealing with quad strain

Ian Rapoport on X

Panthers WR Jalen Coker, who left Sunday's game early, suffered a minor quad strain, source said.

Related players: Xavier Legette

Fantasy Impact:

It's certainly good news it's being called a minor injury. After a great Week 1, Coker had a solid Week 2 but has since been dealing with some minor injuries, including an ankle heading into Week 2. The report went on to say Coker is considered questionable for this week, so it looks like the injury reports later in the week will hopefully give us a better indication of his Week 4 status. The Panthers get a Sunday night prime time game next week at home against the Lions, so owners may have to come up with a backup plan. Legette would likely have a bigger role if Coker has to miss the game.

Panthers WR Chris Brazzell II will undergo season-ending surgery

Adam Schefter

Jul 30 · 1:59 PM EDT

Panthers rookie WR Chris Brazzell will undergo season-ending surgery on his torn LCL, as @josephperson reported. Brazzell injured his knee during Wednesday’s practice.

Fantasy Impact:

We posted yesterday that Brazzell could miss "up to" 8 weeks, and, well, that initial report was clearly too optimistic. Legette now has a clear runway to lock down the WR3 role in Carolina, but that shouldn't give us enough confidence to push him into our draft boards. In addition to being obviously terrible news for Brazzell himself, this could also impact McMillan's season-long ability to line up on the inside more often, as the rookie was slated to stress the defense as a vertical X receiver had he won the WR3 job. Now it comes down to a Legette breakout to add some further legitimacy to this passing attack.

Panthers rookie WR Chris Brazzell expected to miss up to 8 weeks

Cameron Wolfe

Jul 29 · 2:41 PM EDT

Panthers rookie WR Chris Brazzell II suffered a moderate LCL tear in his left knee in practice & he’s expected to miss up to 8 weeks, per league source.

Brazzell will get a second opinion. He’s competing for WR3 role. NFL Week 1 is 6 1/2 weeks away.

Fantasy Impact:

This might be Legette's last chance to prove he should be suiting up for the Panthers. In addition to being bad news for Brazzell himself, this could also impact McMillan's early-season ability to line up on the inside more often, as the rookie was slated to stress the defense as a vertical X receiver had he won the WR3 job. Brazzel's best ball validity takes a hit.
