Brian Flores: Kalen Ballage has "an opportunity to get some more carries"

Speaking to the media Wednesday, Dolphins head coach Brian Flores noted that RB Kalen Ballage has "got an opportunity to get some more carries" and that "hopefully he takes advantage."

Fantasy Impact:

Ballage is in line for a healthy workload in the Dolphins backfield. Kenyan Drake is now in Arizona and Mark Walton is suspended for four games. A pair of rookies in Myles Gaskin and Patrick Laird sit behind Ballage and may be sprinkled in, but for now, this is Ballage's time to shine. That said, Miami faces a Colts defense that is among the top ten, schedule-adjusted, in fantasy points allowed to running backs. And Ballage hasn't seen more than eight carries in a game this season or posted more than 19 yards. That could rise now that he has the reigns to himself. For this week, Ballage is likely no more than a flex play.

Mark Walton has been suspended for the next four games for violating NFL conduct and substance abuse policy.

Fantasy Impact:

Walton is eligible return ahead of Dolphins Week 14 game vs. New York Jets. He will be allowed by NFL to be in the facility and attend meetings but not games and practices, Wolfe went on to say. He was suspended for offseason arrests. Ballage likely gets a bulk of the workload replacing Walton, although he hasn't been impressive this season, eventually falling below Walton on the depth chart.

Compensation update: Arizona is trading a 2020 6th-round pick that could become a 5th-round pick to Miami in exchange for RB Kenyan Drake, per source.

Fantasy Impact:

Schefter reported Sunday that Johnson wouldn't be ready for the team's Week 9 game, a short turnaround on Thursday night. With Edmonds (hamstring) now in doubt too, this move makes some sense, but Drake only has three days to get ready in a tough matchup against the 49ers no less. The worst case for Drake owners is he has short term value and Johnson and Edmonds eventually come back. The best case for Drake owners is Johnson's ankle injury is maybe more serious than the team is letting on, and he ends up splitting work with Edmonds, assuming his hamstring injury isn't serious.

Meanwhile in Miami, this seems to open the door for Walton, who had 14 carries last week and looks to be the main back. Ballage could be back on the fantasy radar and did have a TD last week, but only carried three times.
