Ravens John Harbaugh said that TE Dennis Pitta likely broke his hand at today's practice. Hopeful he'll be back for season opener.

Fantasy Impact:

Ed Dickson should get more time. We had him ranked 25th while Pitta was ranked 29th. Neither seem to be better than TE3 options.

You have a guy with that kind of speed, him and Torrey Smith outside, it opens up a lot of things you can do, me working inside with [tight ends] Ed Dickson and Dennis Pitta, bringing Ray Rice out of the backfield. Chuck Pagano has spent all week planning how to pound Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, slow down wide receiver Mike Wallace and limit Rashard Mendenhall to less than 50 rushing yards against the Ravens for a fourth straight game.

But the Ravens defensive coordinator said Thursday he's glad he doesn't have to find a way to contain a pair of athletic, pass-catching tight ends like Ed Dickson and Dennis Pitta.

That problem belongs to Steelers defensive guru Dick LeBeau.

"You spread those guys out and you get them in space, it's a nightmare for the guy calling the defense," Pagano said without the slightest hint of empathy for his Steelers counterpart.

They are likely to see a lot of action in Sunday night's AFC North showdown at Heinz Field.

The Steelers enter Week 9 with the NFL's top-ranked pass defense, but in eight games, they have allowed 462 receiving yards to tight ends. Just seven teams have surrendered more.

Fantasy Impact:

Dickson will be the more productive of the two, but neither is a TE1.

Separated by just 44 picks in the 2010 draft, tight ends Ed Dickson and Dennis Pitta still bring a tag-team dimension to the Baltimore Ravens a year later.

Indeed, it seems fitting the Ravens will try to replace two-time Pro Bowl tight end Todd Heap this season with a combination of the talents of Dickson, taken in the third round, and Pitta, taken in the fourth.

On an offense that needed to find more speed, Dickson likely will start in Sunday's season opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers, but Pitta figures to get ample playing time. Both players are capable of lining up in the slot or along the line in the traditional tight end position.

"You're going to see them both in the game in different packages," Baltimore offensive coordinator Cam Cameron said. "In my mind, we've got two starting tight ends, and each brings something unique to our offense. So we're going to utilize them both, and I think we approach them both as starters."

Neither lacks talent, but the rotation keeps both of them from being viable fantasy players.
