The Dolphins have a proven playmaker in RB Reggie Bush they haven't used properly until Sunday's 27-13 loss to the San Francisco 49ers. Against one of the NFL's stingiest defenses Miami finally decided to line Bush up as a receiver regularly. Not a gimmick play, but his job.
Bush, who averages 2.2 catches a game on an anemic offense, was finally put into motion, finally leaking out of the backfield on third downs. Tannehill threw Bush as many passes (seven) as he's caught in the past six games.
The Dolphins linebackers will be the first to testify Bush is a nightmare to cover out the backfield when he's running drag routes, screens, flares and speed outs. But the Dolphins rarely use him in that fashion until Sunday.
"It's something that is always available to us. On offense it is something we always have in our package," said Bush, who has contributed 1,018 all-purpose yards and leads the team with five touchdowns. "It's just a matter of coaches calling it."
