Seahawks name Wilson starting QB

The Seahawks Pete Carroll and John Schneider were overjoyed during the NFL draft in April when the Seattle Seahawks were able to grab Russell Wilson in the third round.

Even they couldn't anticipate that Wilson would be the Seahawks' Week 1 starter.

But that was the word from Carroll on Sunday night after he announced the undersized, but highly successful rookie quarterback out of Wisconsin will be the starter when the regular season begins Sept. 9 at Arizona.

Fantasy Impact:

Matt Flynn was the safe choice, but the team decided to go with the guy who clearly won the battle. Wilson first stood out against backups, but then got the start against KC and went 13-of-19 passing for 185 yards, two touchdowns and a passer rating of 134.8. Add in the fact that he can run the ball, as he collected 58 yards, and it's easy to see Wilson is dynamic. If he continues to impress, Wilson could have upper-level QB2 value. Right now we rank him 19th, but he's clearly on the rise. He likely can still be had late in drafts.
