During her Friday mailbag article, Katherine Terrell of The Athletic addressed the Michael Thomas conundrum by addressing the improved depth at wide receiver. "This Saints team is much better positioned to absorb this blow," wrote Terrell. "The addition of Emmanuel Sanders will be a tremendous help, and if he holds up his production from past years, he’s certainly still capable of being a No. 1 receiver. If Thomas is out for a while, that acquisition might end up being as important as Teddy Bridgewater was a few years ago."
Sanders will never be confused for Thomas, but he has had top 20 fantasy seasons with Denver and Pittsburgh. The Saints will look to Sanders to fill a similar safety valve role as Thomas while hoping Tre'Quan Smith and Deonte Harris make their presence known for as long as Thomas is out.
