Matt LeFleur has preached a run-centric plan to help set up things for quarterback Aaron Rodgers, and there’s reason to believe him given not only what he did as a playcaller last year with the Tennessee Titans but also what backs have done in the Sean McVay-Kyle Shanahan system that LaFleur intends to mimic.
Even before No. 2 running back Jamaal Williams dropped out of practice last week because of a hamstring injury, Aaron Jones clearly repped as running back No. 1.
Throughout the offseason, the company line was how well Jones fit not only in LaFleur’s run scheme -- which relies heavily on outside zone plays -- but also how much the offense uses backs as receivers, and that appears to have held true, the story said. Jones led all RBs last season with a 5.47 yards per carry average.
