Cowboys Beat: Jason Witten's numbers to drop from 2013

Cowboys TE Jason Witten has six catches for 46 yards through two games.

The author believe his numbers will be down this season with the Cowboys emphasizing the run game more and with offensive play-caller Scott Linehan using more screens.

The Cowboys also want to get second-round pick TE Gavin Escobar more involved in the passing game, though that has yet to materialize.

In 2012, Witten had a career-high 110 catches for 1,039 yards. Last year, he finished with 73 catches for 851 yards. I'm thinking his overall totals will drop again from his 2013 production.

Fantasy Impact:

It's the same beat writer we posted a similar story about before the season where he predicted Witten's numbers would take a hit this year. It seems to be turning out true. Owners may want to think about cutting bait on Witten for another option. But on the optimistic side, the Cowboys haven't thrown a whole lot thanks to RB DeMarco Murray and QB Tony Romo coming back slowly from back surgery. Witten's on pace for 42 catches for 782 yards after just two games.
