Giants activate Darren Waller from injured reserve

Giants tight end Darren Waller was activated from injured reserve Saturday and will play Sunday against the Saints.

Fantasy Impact:

Waller was able to practice this week after having his window to return opened this week. Waller reportedly looked good in practice. He should be right back involved in the passing game for the Giants and add a strong weapon for quarterback Tommy DeVito. Waller is No. 18 on our tight end board this week in what could be a good matchup against Saints.

NYG TE Darren Waller - Week 17 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 vs. Los Angeles Rams

Darren Waller caught two balls for 32 yards last week against the Eagles. Waller has been getting targets - averages 6.2 per game this year - but he just isn’t producing. He has just three double-digit half-PPR fantasy performances this year and only one touchdown all season. The Giants offense hasn’t been good enough to sustain fantasy pass-catchers, and Waller just hasn’t been able to be an exception to that.

This week, Waller faces a Rams defense that ranks eighth in aFPA to opposing tight ends. He gets enough targets to warrant fantasy consideration, but he’s a risky, fringe-starter in most leagues. Expect a high level of variance for the veteran, and fantasy managers should hold their breath if forced to start him.
