Streaming Quarterbacks: Week 11 Targets

The fantasy community generally starts talking about the fleeting nature of the fantasy season early on in the campaign. It starts around Week 5 with ‘I can’t believe it’s already…’ comments as the bye weeks start. Waiver wire pickups are slightly more challenging. Seasons already start to feel won or lost.

That feels too soon.

Comments during Week 8 still orbit around learning about teams. Fantasy league standings are still very much in contention. Week 11 falls into that sweet spot. We understand each team but with only a limited time to react with the playoffs quickly approaching. Time is now against us. Fantasy football is like an open-book test. It feels easy walking into the exam, but we find ourselves cramming during the test. Injuries, trades, and coaching tendencies are those trick questions leaving us flipping through our notes for answers. But now, the clock isn’t on our side.

The fantasy playoffs are only a few weeks away and roster decisions are critical. Pressure may be mounting, but the process remains the same. We’re almost through the bye week gauntlet with multiple streaming options available to plug into our lineups. Let's review the latest coming out of Week 10 and get to the streaming recommendations for Week 11.

Week 10 Review

Two recommendations finished as a QB1 with the others giving a safe(ish) floor. Here’s how the scores ended up with key takeaways below:

The Colts have some explaining to do. Jacoby Brissett was injured in Week 9 with Brian Hoyer expected to start in Week 10. However, Brissett practiced on a limited basis throughout the week and then announced inactive on Saturday. Practice reports noted Brissett taking the majority of the reps leaving Brian Hoyer underprepared for their match against Miami. Without T.Y. Hilton and waiving another pass catcher, the decision-making process from the coaches appears flawed in light of the results. The Colts will need to get their house in order as they host the Jaguars (16.6 aFPA) coming off of their bye.

Otherwise, a solid week. Daniel Jones continues his aggressive nature despite being down two pass catchers entering the game and Saquon Barkley exiting it banged up. Sam Darnold has begun to come out of his shell and provided more than just a floor in a positive matchup. Both will likely find themselves on this list in the coming weeks. One is back in for Week 11. Let’s get to it.

Adjusted Fantasy Points Allowed

Next, let’s visit 4for4’s Schedule-Adjusted Fantasy Points Allowed updated through Week 11. Injuries and now playoff implications will begin to factor into the outlook of each defensive unit as teams may start to look to the 2020 season with their immediate prospects in shambles. Notable rankings for defensive units include:

  • GB down 3 spots to #13 (14.4 aFPA)
  • NYJ down 3 spots to #22 (19 aFPA)
  • CIN down 2 spots to #28 (20.7 aFPA)
  • MIA up 3 spots to #26 (20.6 aFPA)
  • WAS up 3 spots to #19 (17.6 aFPA)
  • BAL up 4 spots to #8 (14.2 aFPA)

The Jets are still fearsome upfront, but their secondary has been gashed over the past few weeks by offensive units at both ends of the perceived talent spectrum. Similarly, Cincinnati has apparently packed it in with one of their worst performances coming off of a bye. On the flip side, Baltimore has now become a team to avoid. The assumption was that they'd try and sleepwalk their way through their Week 10 matchup after coming off a huge game in Week 9 against Tom Brady and the Patriots. Not this team. Their secondary put the clamps on the Bengals' receivers leaving Tyler Boyd and Joe Mixon to be the only fantasy assets worth starting. This week against Houston will be a marquee matchup with both real and fantasy playoff implications.

Key Defensive Injuries

Finally, we’ll review injuries along with the guidelines that will be used each week to find viable options on the waiver wire:

  • Only quarterbacks with no more than a 50% ownership in Yahoo leagues considered.
  • Ancillary metrics and game conditions (e.g. defensive ranking, weather) will be factored into the analysis.
  • Positive matchups for all pass catchers to be considered.
  • 4for4 rankings should always be consulted for league-specific decisions.

Danny Trevathan (Bears, Elbow) – Arms are not supposed to bend this way. Chicago’s defense (14.1 aFPA) was already down one of their primary starters in Akiem Hicks and Trevathan’s injury should cost him the season. The inside linebacker was seen with his arm in a sling while the team waits for the seemingly inevitable result ahead of their matchup against the equally flailing Rams (15.1 aFPA).

Marshon Lattimore (Saints, Thigh) – The Saints’ (16 aFPA) run defense was already an issue, but Julio Jones began taxing the secondary once Lattimore left the game towards the end of the first half. Their 26 points allowed were the most since Week 3, but the team has a chance to get back on track as they head down to Tampa in Week 11.

Patrick Peterson (Cardinals, Calf) – The Cardinals’ cornerback, only four weeks back from suspension, was injured in the fourth quarter of the team’s 30-27 loss against Tampa Bay. Arizona (23.1 aFPA) was still able to record multiple sacks and interceptions against Jameis Winston but is now thin and inexperienced with the team traveling to San Francisco (Santa Clara to be exact) in Week 11.

Other Notable Injuries: Janoris Jenkins (Giants, Concussion), A’Shawn Robinson (Lions, Thumb), Kevin Strong (Lions, Ribs), Michael Pierce (Ravens, Foot), Darious Williams (Rams, Ankle), Tremon Smith (Packers, Concussion), Ty Summers (Packers, Concussion), Jeff Heath (Cowboys, Shoulder)
