NFL Preseason Week 2 Recap: 8 Must-Know Facts

Are we done with the preseason yet? Getting through a whole game at this juncture isn’t the easiest of tasks, as most of the fantasy-relevant guys are barely on the field, and Week 2 was a rough one for relevant facts. As fantasy managers, we do need some clarity before the bulk of drafting starts, so that's where I come in.

Here's a position-by-position look at how Week 2 went down, so you can plan and adjust accordingly for the onslaught of upcoming drafts.

Quarterbacks

Bryce Young truthers can exhale a bit: The 25-year-old had a better outing on Thursday, leading a 58-yard scoring drive on Carolina's second possession. Young moved the chains five times in the series, which was five more than against Buffalo last week. He still remains in fantasy QB2/3 territory, but it was nice to see him make some plays.

There appear to be no lingering ankle issues for Bo Nix: The Denver QB completed 6 of 9 passes for 76 yards, with a 21-yard touchdown pass to RJ Harvey. This was Bo Nix's first live action for the Broncos since breaking his right ankle seven months ago during a postseason tilt against the Bills. He also connected with newcomer Jaylen Waddle for a 35-yard reception. Nix's QB15 ADP has his recovery baked in, so he's still a solid value a few weeks out from Week 1.

It looks like Stetson Bennett still has some Dawg left in him: Yes, bad and overused pun, but it fits. Fighting for the backup role behind Matthew Stafford, the former UGA QB threw for 181 yards and scored two touchdowns with his legs on Saturday, overshadowing rookie Ty Simpson's performance during his three series (8-of-12 for 73 yards). While neither is fantasy-relevant, the situation is worth monitoring as Stafford's back condition is always a concern despite starting 2026 healthy.

The Browns' QB situation is still TBD, but do we care? Shedeur Sanders completed his first eight passes, threw a touchdown, and ended Saturday night with a 9-74-1 line wth one interception, while DeShaun Watson was subpar and was booed repeatedly by the Cleveland crowd. He had 35 passing yards on five completions out of 12 attempts, with one pick. This QB room has been gross all summer for our purposes, and nothing has changed, as neither of these guys is draftable in seasonal leagues despite their very friendly QB3 price tags (Sanders: QB30, Watson: QB35)

Running Backs

We have a pylon crossing for Jonathon Brooks: Sure, it was a one-yard run against the Jags' backups into the end zone, but Brooks finally got an NFL touchdown. Wheels up as his ADP continues to climb. He's currently leaving draft boards as the RB30 at pick 7.08.

Can I interest anyone in Ameer Abdullah... again? The RB journeyman is now in Jacksonville, if you were unaware, and had himself a night. He rushed six times for 45 yards, including a 23-yard run in which he straight-up juked CB Chau Smith-Wade, plus he added three catches for 37 yards. Abdullah is vying for that Jag's RB3 spot along with DeeJay Dallas and rookie J'Mari Taylor.

Kickers

Harrison Butker nailed a 69-yarder (nice) but also faltered: Despite making three long kicks, including that whopping 69-yarder, the KC kicker missed an extra point and a potential game-winning 43-yarder. It won't affect his starting gig, of course, but it did put a damper on his overall performance on Saturday night.

Indy's kicker job is wide-ish open: Spencer Shrader had a solid 2025 until he suffered a season-ending knee injury, and the team signed former Saint Blake Grupe this offseason to compete. Grupe was the favorite before the preseason, but Shrader may have changed some minds after nailing 48- and 53-yarders this week.
