Fantasy Football Quarterback Streaming Week 9: Sam Darnold Stands Out

Quarterbacks didn’t rack up a ton of yards in Week 8, with just two players throwing for at least 300 yards. On the bright side, three quarterbacks finished with four touchdown passes each. There were five additional quarterbacks who each accumulated three passing touchdowns.

Two of the four teams on bye during Week 8 are the Eagles and Buccaneers, meaning that Jalen Hurts and Baker Mayfield won’t be available to fantasy managers. Complicating matters is that six teams were on a bye during Week 8, so a lot of the usual streaming suspects are currently rostered in at least 40% of Yahoo leagues. That will make streaming the quarterback position tricky for Week 9.

For streaming purposes, 4for4’s Schedule-Adjusted Fantasy Points Allowed (aFPA) is a metric we rely heavily on to determine weekly matchup strength. As the season progresses and more data is available, aFPA becomes more and more reliable, using rolling 10-week data.

Week 8 Recap

Joe Flacco stepped up again last week, throwing for 223 yards and two touchdowns against the Jets. He also added two carries for 14 yards and a touchdown, which helped him finish as QB5. Since joining the Bengals, he has eight total touchdowns over three games. A great matchup against the Bears awaits him in Week 9, but Flacco is no longer eligible for this column because he is rostered in 61% of Yahoo leagues.

Two of our picks were ultimately ruled out with injuries. Michael Penix Jr. (knee) couldn’t take the field for the Falcons, while Tyrod Taylor (knee) was sidelined for the Jets. The Jets have a bye in Week 9, but even in Week 10, Taylor might have lost his opportunity to start. Justin Fields had one of his best games of the season Sunday, posting 244 passing yards, one touchdown, and 31 rushing yards against the Bengals.
