Streaming Quarterbacks: Week 2 Fantasy Football Targets
QB streaming is off to one hell of a start. Four of the top-five scoring fantasy quarterbacks in Week 1 in standard scoring (4-point passing touchdowns, -2 for interceptions) were available in most leagues or drafted extremely late: Alex Smith (31 points, 23% owned on Yahoo!), Sam Bradford (25.5 points, 25% owned), Trevor Siemian (22.7 points, 6% owned ) and Carson Wentz (18.9 points, 63% owned).
Two other late-round/undrafted quarterbacks cracked the top-10 in Week 1: Tyrod Taylor (18.8 points, 51% owned) and DeShone Kizer (18.6 points, 10% owned).
Our top streaming pick in Week 1 was Bradford, who was QB3 out of the gates with 346 yards and three touchdowns against the Saints on Monday night. We hope to duplicate those results in Week 2.
Our standard for this exercise will be to select only quarterbacks owned in fewer than 40 percent of Yahoo! leagues. We will use that standard as not to be accused of stretching the definition of “streamer” (plus, we like a challenge). It will also allow for similar availability on other sites.
We’ll focus on factors such as: QB points per game, the opponent’s schedule-adjusted fantasy points allowed to quarterbacks (aFPA), and the Vegas implied team totals.
Alex Smith (KC) vs. PHI
Your QB1 after Week 1 (31 points), after slicing up the Patriots secondary on Thursday night. Now, Smith and his triad of weapons (Kareem Hunt, Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce) return home with an extra few days to prepare for the Eagles. Philadelphia did force three turnovers against Kirk Cousins in Week 1 but has now lost starting cornerback Ronald Darby. The Chiefs also opened with the 5th-highest implied total for Week 2 at 26 points.
Smith is 23% owned in Yahoo leagues.
