Jaguars RB Rashad Jennings will be placed on IR

The Jacksonville Jaguars have told backup running back Rashad Jennings they will place him on injured reserve.

Jennings injured his knee against the Buffalo Bills two weeks ago and was seen on crutches last week.

The Jaguars could find a running back in free agency or off waivers to have an every-down type of backup for Maurice Jones-Drew.

Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio also said Friday he'd expect fullbacks Montell Owens and Brock Bolen to see more carries this year.

Fantasy Impact: 

If Jacksonville fails to make a move, Deji Karim will be Maurice Jones-Drew's handcuff. Given Jones-Drew's health has been in question, Karim is worth a late-round look.

Four Jaguars' who didn't play in Philadelphia, tight end Zach Miller, running back Montell Owens, defensive tackle Rob Meier and cornerback Don Carey, remained sidelined.

Carey will probably be heading to the injured-reserve list with a shoulder injury. Miller might be a candidate for the list because he hasn't played since the first preseason game because of a knee injury.

Owens' status is up in the air. He's missed all three games with a knee injury.

The new players who were sidelined were safety Marlon McCree, who had a taped thigh, wide receiver Nate Hughes, who suffered a concussion in Philadelphia, and linebacker Adam Seward. Receiver Torry Holt was riding a bike at the start of practice.

Eleven players won't dress for tonight for Jacksonville's preseason game against Tampa Bay. Those players include WR Mike Walker (ankle), CB Derek Cox (groin), CB Don Carey (shoulder), RB Rashad Jennings (groin), FB Montell Owens (knee), CB Scott Starks (hamstring), LB Daryl Smith, LB Justin Durant (hip flexor), WR Mike Thomas (hamstring), TE Zach Miller (knee) and DT Jonathan Lewis (ankle).

Several Jaguars players were held out of practice, including receiver Mike Walker (ankle), cornerback Derek Cox (groin), running back Rashad Jennings (groin), fullback Montell Owens (knee), cornerback Scott Starks (hamstring), linebacker Justin Durant (hip flexor), linebacker Tim Shaw (groin), receiver Mike Thomas (hamstring), defensive end Jonathan Lewis (ankle) and tight end Zach Miller (knee). Cox, Jennings, Starks and Shaw are the only players of the group expected to return to action soon.
