Bears HC Lovie Smith is adamant Michael Vick deserves a second chance but doesn't see room for the free-agent quarterback on his roster even though the Bears have a spot available. Smith acknowledged Vick would provide a different dimension behind Jay Cutler. The Bears have two backups -- Caleb Hanie and Brett Basanez -- without NFL experience or the dynamic playmaking ability Vick showed in his first go-round with the Falcons.
''I think Mike deserves a second chance, I'll say that again,'' Smith said. ''Like everyone in society after they have paid their debt to society on any type of crime, you deserve a second chance.
''As far as we're concerned, we like the team we have right now. So if you're asking me about whether we're looking for receivers or are we going to trade guys, we like this team. I don't think we need to add anything else at this time.''
