All but the luckiest fantasy owners at some point need to find the proverbial diamond in the rough—a waiver wire or bench player capable of putting up some points in a pinch. This weekly feature is dedicated to that part of fantasy football. It’s not pretty, but it’s part of the game.
Quarterbacks
Tyler Shough, Saints (vs. LV, 12)
Tyler Shough has been a regular in this space, and he just keeps delivering. After his 410-yard opener, he completed 27 of 34 passes for 252 yards and a touchdown in Baltimore and added 23 yards and the game-winning one-yard sneak on the ground. He leads the league in pass completions (62) and yards (662). The rushing production adds a nice floor.
Jared Goff, Lions (vs. NYJ, 28)
The Jared Goff Gambit is off to a nice start. He threw for 327 yards and four touchdowns on the road in Week 2 and sits as the fantasy QB5 through two weeks. Jameson Williams hasn’t gotten going yet, and I’m not worried about that, either. He’s too good not to. Goff at home in a decent-to-good matchup? Start him.
